Where Do You Find Motivation?
A Cold Morning, a Tough Decision, and a Lesson on Discipline
This morning, I woke up knowing one thing: it’s a running day. Sunday = Runday. That’s the rule.
But then I looked outside. Grey skies. Frosted windows.I checked the weather app:-6°C… feels like -10°C.
My first thought?"Nope. Not today." I even posted to my stories, asking other runners:
“How do you do it in this cold? Like… how?? 😂”
The truth is, I was motivated. But in a flash... one look outside, one swipe on the weather app and my mind started searching for a way out. A way to stay warm. Comfortable. Safe.
And that’s the trap. That’s how motivation disappears.
Motivation Is Fragile, If You Let It Be
Motivation can shift so quickly. Sometimes, it’s just one thought…One excuse…One feeling of discomfort…And suddenly you're off track.
But that’s when it matters most to remember your why.
For me, I’ve built a mindset, a routine, and a system that brings me back to discipline, even when motivation fades.
I don’t wait to feel ready. I don’t debate with myself too long. I simply say:
“Just do it... don’t be such a wuss.”
Then I hit play on my go-to motivational playlist and that’s all it takes to flip the switch.
Because the goal doesn’t care about how I feel in the moment. And comfort never leads to greatness.
Cold Weather Running Motivation Start With Your Fire
What works for me might not work for you. We’re all wired differently. But here’s what I’ve learned:
Know your why. Reconnect to the reason you started.
Have a system. Create routines that support you when your motivation dips.
Talk to yourself, not just listen. Your inner voice matters. Lead it.
Motivation is fleeting, but identity and values are solid. So when it’s cold, when it’s tough, when you’re not “feeling it”…Remember who you are. And remind yourself: you’re built for this.

Final Thoughts
Some days you’ll feel fired up. Other days, you’ll have to light the fire yourself.
And that’s okay.
Just don’t let a moment of comfort steal the progress you've worked so hard for. Run through it. Push through it. Because what’s on the other side is always worth it.
